Parasyte the maxim [SUB] (2014) Review

Image
Parasyte -the maxim- [SUB] (2014) 8.5/10 Hello everyone. Today, I’ll be going over Parasyte -the maxim-. Parasyte is a 24 episode anime that aired from October 9, 2014 - March 26, 2015 with Studio Madhouse being the animation studio behind this piece of work. Parasyte has been on my watch list for the LONGEST time now. Back when it was airing on Toonami, I missed the pilot and so I wasn’t able to watch it. I did however watch like a couple of minutes of the last episode, but I had no idea what was going on lol. Watching this now, I’m glad I did watch it. Parasyte is a very unique anime that you don’t see too often. The best shows I can compare this too would be Attack on Titan and Another, but even those don’t do this show justice. I have quite a bit to talk about, so let’s just begin. Our story follows high schooler Shinichi Izumi as his life suddenly takes a turn for the worse. One night, while he’s asleep, a spore falls into his backyard. Within this spore hatches out a parasi...

Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010) Review

Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010) 6.5/10 Hello and welcome to another movie review. Today, I’ll be going over the cult classic film Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Originally a series of graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley, this movie was released on August 31, 2010 with the director being Edgar Wright. Now, I have seen this series talked about a lot, especially with the game getting two separate releases within the past couple of years as well as the Netflix series. I’m not too familiar with the story, so this was my first exposure to it, and I gotta say, I am severely disappointed with what I had watched. This has got to be one of the most overrated movies I have ever seen. Let’s begin. Our story takes place in Toronto, Canada. Our hero is Scott Pilgrim. Scott Pilgrim is in his early 20’s and is dating a high school girl named Knives Chau. Scott is also in an angsty teen rock band with a couple of his friends called The Sex Bomb Ombs. One night, Scott has a dream of a girl tha...

Robots (2005) Review

Robots (2005) 6.5/10 Hello and welcome to another movie review. Today, I’ll be going over Blue Sky’s second film, Robots. Robots was released on March 11, 2005 with the director being Chris Wedge. I have seen this movie before, just like with a lot of the movies that I have been reviewing lately. The last time I saw this was back around when it first aired in theaters. Rewatching this gave me a blast of nostalgia because I loved the whole concept of this movie. Mechanical, automaton robots in their own functioning society. That and I loved the toys for the movie. But does it still hold up? Let’s find out. Our story takes place in a world that runs on robots. No humans or any other animals at all. Everything is metallic, mechanical, and robotic. And not modern day iterations of robots. Robots reminiscent of the mid-late 1900’s. Our story follows aspiring robot Rodney as he chases his dreams of becoming an inventor. From a young age, Rodney looked up to his hero, Mr. Bigweld, t...

Spirited Away [SUB] (2001) Review

Spirited Away [SUB] (2001) 8.5/10 Hello and welcome to another movie review. Today, I’ll be tackling one of the most critically acclaimed movies ever made. Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away was released on July 20, 2001, with Miyazaki’s animation studio Studio Ghibli producing the film. Upon its release, Spirited Away was critically acclaimed by both general audiences and critics, and was a massive box office hit. The film was even awarded Best Animated Film at the Oscars. At this point in time, I have seen this movie a couple of times now, and although I enjoy it, I still fail to see why this was so popular. In Japan, it makes sense seeing as this has heavy Japanese folklore mixed into its story. But abroad? The movie has phenomenal animation, but I just don’t see how this got so popular. Anyway, let’s begin. This is the story of Chihiro, a 10 year old girl who is moving to a new home with her mother and father. On the way to the new place, the family t...

Ratatouille (2007) Review

Image
Ratatouille (2007) 8/10 "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends.”                                               -Anton Ego. Hello everyone and welcome to another movie review. As I’m continuing to revisit old movies I’ve seen before, I have finally reached another movie near and dear to me. Ratatouille first premiered at the Ko...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (PS3) Review

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (PS3) 7.5/10 Hello everyone and welcome to another game review. I have been revisiting another one of my all time favorite PS3 titles: Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut. Human Revolution was originally released on August 23, 2011, with the Director’s Cut version of the game released at a later date. The game was developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix. In this version, certain parts of the game have been fixed up, items and missions have been added, the DLC ‘The Missing Link’ is present, and the game even added a director’s commentary. This is the definitive version of the game, so I’ll be judging it by this version. Now, I have a history with this game. This and InFamous are probably my most played titles on the PS3. I have played this game religiously in the past, so I know it almost like the back of my hand and I even considered it to be one of my all time favorite games. Replaying it TWICE now, I fin...
