Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Review

Image
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 9/10 Hello and welcome to another movie review. Today, let’s continue with the original Star Wars trilogy with the second entry. The Empire Strikes Back was originally released on May 21, 1980, with the director being Irvin Kershner. George Lucas took a step back and focused more on being the executive producer, however Lucas was the one who wrote the story. Empire is regarded as the best Star Wars film and one of the best films of all time, even making it into the Library of Congress alongside the first film. I have such a rocky history with this movie. Unlike literally everyone else on this planet, I never really cared for Empire. I grew up with the Special Edition version and I found the movie to be fine, but I truly never saw the “greatness” of the film. Because of this, I had always found Empire to be completely overrated. Having watched the original release (or as close to the original as one could get), I get it now. You know t...

Star Wars (1977) Review

Star Wars (1977) 9/10 Hello and welcome to another movie review. Today, I’m beginning my journey into Star Wars (again) with the movie that started it all. Star Wars was originally released on May 25, 1977, with the movie being written and directed by George Lucas. The film would go on to be a blockbuster hit and kickstart one of the most successful franchises of all time. Star Wars has since been added to the National Film Registry and even considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan. I grew up with the Prequel Trilogy and all of the games for the PS2/Xbox. I love this universe, it’s many stories and characters, and just about everything else about it. I grew up with the controversial Special Edition versions of the original movies and although I enjoyed those, I have a soft spot for the films that were released during my childhood. I had never seen the ORIGINAL versions of the movies, so I am righting that wrong now. Star Wars (or subs...

Assassin's Creed (PS3) Review

Assassin’s Creed (PS3) 5/10 “Nothing is True; Everything is Permitted” Hello and welcome to another game review. Today, let’s take a look at the beginning of a legendary franchise. A franchise that many of us today feel like is dead in the water. Assassin’s Creed first launched back on November 13, 2007 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with the game being developed and published by Ubisoft. Despite how forgotten this game is compared to later entries, I feel that it needs some much needed love. The game has obvious issues that hold it back from true greatness, but I still enjoyed it more than I would like to admit. Let’s jump right into it. Our story follows Desmond Miles, a bartender during modern day. He gets kidnapped by Abstergo Industries and forced into a machine called an Animus. The Animus rejects this and forces Desmond back to a previous memory of his ancestor. A little background info. So in this universe, our minds, our brains and DNA harbor not only our memories, but the me...

Persona 5 Royal (PS4) Review

Persona 5 Royal (PS4) 8/10 [THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!] Hello and welcome to another game review. Today, I’m going to tackle the critically acclaimed JRPG Persona 5 Royal. Persona 5 originally released back in 2016 in Japan for the PS3 and PS4, and then in the West in 2017. As per tradition with almost every single Atlus title, they will release the base version of a game and then release a deluxe/definitive version a few years later. Persona 5 Royal is the definitive edition, which was released in 2019 in Japan for the PS4, then released worldwide on March 31, 2020. The game would then be ported to Xbox, PC, and Switch in 2022. Just like the rest of the mainline Persona titles, Royal was developed by Atlus and P-Studios and published by Sega. For this review, I’ll be going over the original PS4 release. Back when I first got into the Persona games, I got super obsessive. To the point that this series consumed my identity for a solid year - year a...

Akira [SUB] (1988) Review

Akira [SUB] (1988) 10/10 Hello and welcome to another movie review. Today, I’m going to go over arguably one of the greatest movies ever made. Originally a manga written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira is an animated movie that was released on July 16, 1988, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, with the movie being produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha. Akira is regarded as one of the best movies ever made, animated or live action, and has since been part of popular culture ever since (with many media referencing its iconic Akira slide animation). I have seen this movie a few times before, but I feel like I didn’t fully understand what was going on here. I have felt the need to rewatch and re-review it for some time and I figured now would be an excellent opportunity. Akira is a masterpiece of film work and I can already say that this is a must watch. Let’s begin. In 1988, World War III had begun with destruction of Japan’s capital Tokyo. 30 years later, in 2019, the city of Ne...
